Cook your own: turkey burger

Here’s an easy recipe for turkey burgers when you’re in the mood for cooking. Even better, it’s one-stop shopping at Trader Joe’s for the ingredients and measuring is optional.

  • 1 package of ground turkey (1 pound?)
  • handful of small carrots minced in a food processor– vitamins for your eyes
  • maybe celery chopped– carrots and celery go together
  • lots of minced garlic– to keep the vampires away
  • chopped onion if the garlic’s not enough for you–onion is good, too
  • shredded cheese– cheese makes it taste better
  • 1 egg– keeps the above together
  • olive oil– mainstay of the Mediterranean diet to keep you in bathing-suit form
  • seasoning to taste, e.g., Old Bay Seasoning– ’cause I lived in Baltimore for many years

Put the above into a large bowl and mix it around with your hands. Make into patties (remember those Play-Doh days?). BBQ or pan fry as you wish.

If you like surprises: take a bite-sized piece of Baby Bel or Laughing Cow or other favorite cheese and stuff it into the middle of the burger patty before cooking.

Don’t forget to wrap your burger in a McDonald’s wrapper: it makes it taste better (more here and here).

Bon appetit!
