Vending machine comparo

The Japanese have a particular fascination with vending machines. According to Wikipedia, Japan has the highest number of vending machines per capita, with about one machine for every 23 people.

Gizmodo posted on a Japanese man who made daily photographs of a particular beverage vending machine and analyzed the changes in beverage location. Of course, snarky commenters typical of “Geeks” had a field day. For example:

FERRIS209: “Okay, this guy REALLY REALLY needs a woman.”

CHEDDIES: “He has a wife! oh yeah, wife… mabye [sic] thats the problem!”

I can see the next Freakonomics chapter on how positioning of a beverage affects its sales, among other useful-to-companies data.
