Glass blowing

I did some glass blowing in college– organic chemistry lab, to be specific. It wasn’t Dale Chihuly by any measure; we had to fashion our own pipettes and distillation apparatus for the microscale “orgo” labs.

What makes the glasswork notable is that Thiemens is doing it at all.

Thirty years ago, when Thiemens was just entering the field, chemists routinely made, modified and repaired their own glassware – the myriad and sometimes oddly shaped crystalline containers in which they conducted their experiments.
